BAGALKOT: It has come to light that two boys were allegedly tied to the windows of a school and beaten with slippers and hands by some locals in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district after a cricket ball they were playing with accidentally struck a woman in Narenur Tanda on Sunday. Police have secured three persons in connection with the incident. Bagalkot SP Siddharth Goyal said the incident occurred around 11 am on Sunday on the premises of the Government Kannada Primary School in Narenur Lambani Tanda-01 in Badami taluk. “As per the complaint, two students along with other children were playing cricket in the school premises since it was a holiday. During the game, a cricket ball accidentally hit a nearby resident. It is alleged that the resident got angry and abused the children and instigated others to punish them. Subsequently, the accused persons allegedly tied the two students with a rope to an iron grill of the school premises and assaulted them with hands and footwear.” he said.“The children were later rescued after elders intervened. In connection with the incident, Kerur Police have secured Renuka Gopal Lamani, Basavaraj Gopal Lamani, and Abhi Shivappa Lamani. A case has been registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 115(2), 118(1), 133, 49, 352 and 3(5). Further investigation is in progress” he explained.He reiterated that any act of violence, intimidation or unlawful punishment against children would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. The injured boys, Prajwal, 14, and Sushant, 12, have been admitted to a hospital.
