Toyota has begun testing the next-generation Fortuner in Thailand, indicating that a full model change is underway nearly a decade after the current version was introduced. The second-generation Fortuner debuted globally in 2016 and received a facelift in 2021. The upcoming model is expected to be based on a new platform, feature a redesigned exterior, an updated cabin, additional features, enhanced safety systems, and possible changes to the powertrain lineup. The spied images show a heavily camouflaged test vehicle, though visible elements point to notable styling revisions.

Design-wise, the overall silhouette remains familiar, the SUV appears to adopt a more upright stance with a flatter bonnet and a wider front section. At the front, the model is expected to draw inspiration from the recently revealed Hilux. Slim LED daytime running lamps are positioned higher on the fascia, while the main headlamp units are placed lower, forming a split-headlamp arrangement. The grille appears larger, accompanied by a revised bumper and fog lamps mounted lower on the front apron. The rear section is largely covered, though the outline suggests a more squared profile than the existing version. Overall, the new Fortuner is expected to retain its upright proportions while incorporating sharper lines and updated styling cues seen on Toyota’s latest ladder-frame vehicles.

There are no details about the interior, but the next-generation Fortuner is expected to undergo a significant cabin overhaul. Drawing cues from the new Hilux, the SUV is likely to feature a fully digital instrument cluster along with a larger touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Ui. Expected features include wireless Apple Car Play/Android Auto, ventilated front seats, connected car tech, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, push-button start/stop, a sunroof, leatherette upholstery, multiple airbags, and ADAS. Improvements in interior materials and seating are also likely.
There are no details yet regarding the powertrain options. However, the next-generation Fortuner is expected to continue with the proven 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. A 4×4 variant with a terrain management system will be continued. In addition, a petrol-hybrid option is being speculated, though nothing has been officially confirmed. As road testing continues in Thailand, further information about the next-generation Fortuner is likely to emerge in the coming months. The Fortuner remains a key ladder-frame SUV for Toyota in markets such as India and Southeast Asia, where it continues to rank among the leading options in the full-size segment. There are no details on when it will be launched in the Indian market, it’s expected to make its debut globally sometime in 2026 or early 2027. When launched, it continues to compete with the upcoming MG Majestor, Jeep Meridian, Mahindra Scorpio and Isuzu MU-X.Image source: Car250
