NEW DELHI: The government has appointed senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit as the next Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the country’s domestic intelligence agency, PTI reported on Thursday.The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dixit, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serves as Special Director in the agency.He brings extensive intelligence and security experience to the role, including a stint as chief of the State Intelligence Bureau in Jammu and Kashmir.Dixit will succeed incumbent IB Director Tapan Deka, who was appointed in June 2022. Deka subsequently received two one-year extensions, in June 2024 and June 2025.
