SRINAGAR: J&K CM Omar Abdullah Thursday re-opened Gulmarg’s popular gondola (cable car) ride that was closed on May 25 after a technical snag left more than 300 tourists stranded for nearly seven hours. Gulmarg’s gondola is among the world’s highest ropeways.Omar said operations were resumed after the manufacturer, a French engineering firm, visited the site and expressed satisfaction about the repair work.“We feared that Gulmarg would wear a deserted look once the gondola was shut but tourists continued to visit, and tourism activities remained largely unaffected. With the resumption of gondola services we expect the number of tourists will increase,” the CM said.
