Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has recorded more than 6.2 lakh rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY).The state has achieved more than 50% of its target of installing rooftop solar systems in 11.27 lakh households. Officials said Uttar Pradesh accounts for about 17% of the country’s total rooftop solar installations under the scheme.During the meeting, UPNEDAdirector Ravinder Singh said Uttar Pradesh installed rooftop solar systems in more than 50,000 households in each of March, April and May 2026, making it the first state to cross the 50,000 mark for three consecutive months.Officials reviewed the implementation of the scheme and discussed measures to improve the conversion of applications into installations. These included timely processing of loan applications, quicker loan disbursals after approval, activation of inactive vendors and empanelment of additional vendors where required.The meeting also discussed compiling data on electricity bill savings reported by beneficiaries for public awareness about the scheme.According to officials, the pace of installations has increased from around 500 per day in June 2025 to nearly 2,100 per day in May 2026. The most recent 50,000 installations were completed in 22 days.The review report stated that more than 2,000 MW of rooftop solar capacity has been added in Uttar Pradesh under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. It also estimated that the rooftop solar sector in the state currently generates business worth Rs 40 crore to Rs 50 crore per day and supports employment for more than 80,000 people.
