PUNE: A three-storey administrative building at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant in Moshi collapsed amid heavy rain on Wednesday, According to officials, 15 to 16 workers are feared trapped under the debrisThe building collapsed at around 1.45pm, triggering a large-scale rescue operation by the PCMC fire brigade. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also rushed to the site to assist in the search and rescue efforts.A senior fire brigade official said rescue teams had reached the spot and operations were underway.“Some people are believed to be trapped under the debris, but it is too early to confirm the exact number or whether there have been any casualties,” the official said.The building housed the administrative offices of the civic body’s Waste-to-Energy project, and several employees were inside when the structure gave way, according to officials.Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people trapped or reported any fatalities or injuries. Rescue operations are underway.
