Lucknow: After a week of widespread monsoon showers, rainfall is expected to ease across Uttar Pradesh over the next five to seven days, even as humid conditions intensify and temperatures inch upwards in several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said rainfall activity will likely decline over most parts of the state as the monsoon trough shifts towards the Himalayan foothills. With the trough moving north, dry westerly winds are expected to influence the plains, gradually pushing daytime temperatures higher and reducing the frequency of rain spells.Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, said the shift in the trough is already changing weather patterns. “The monsoon trough is gradually shifting towards the Himalayan foothills. As a result, dry westerly winds will reduce rainfall over most districts during the next few days,” he said. However, districts in the Terai belt and eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to continue seeing intermittent showers because of their proximity to the trough. The IMD expects light to moderate rain in Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj, with isolated heavy showers at a few locations.Meteorologists said that even with fewer rain events, the absence of persistent monsoon showers can keep moisture levels trapped near the surface, making conditions feel more uncomfortable. High humidity is expected to persist, and the “feels like” temperature may remain elevated even if the actual maximum does not rise sharply. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature on Sunday was 35.5 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees above normal, while the minimum was 27.8 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees above normal. The city reported no rainfall, and relative humidity ranged between 61% and 78%. The IMD forecast a partly cloudy sky turning mainly clear on Monday, with temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.Rainfall remained heavier in the east. Bansgaon in Gorakhpur recorded 168 mm in 24 hours ending Sunday morning, followed by Mahsi in Bahraich at 129 mm and Tanda in Ambedkar Nagar at 125 mm. In west Uttar Pradesh, Suar in Rampur logged 18.6 mm, Nawabganj in Bareilly 18 mm, and Dhampur in Bijnor 17 mm. Orai was the hottest station at 40 degrees Celsius, followed by Banda at 36.2 degrees Celsius and Agra at 36 degrees Celsius.
