Lucknow: In a record-breaking drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, over 35.3 crore saplings were planted across the state on Sunday. Of these, the highest number of saplings, 15,42,19,413, was planted by the nodal department, the department of forest, environment and climate change. This was followed by the rural development department, which achieved a plantation total of over 10.6 crore saplings.Among the districts, Sonbhadra secured the top spot by planting over 1.7 crore saplings, while Lalitpur, Jhansi, Lakhimpur Kheri and Jalaun ranked second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.The highest number of saplings planted was that of shisham (Indian rosewood), with over 4.7 crore saplings planted. Among fruit-bearing trees, jamun (black plum) saplings recorded the highest plantation figures. The ‘Vriksharopan Mahayagya-2026’ is realising the dream of a ‘Green UP’ in accordance with CM Yogi’s vision.
