Lucknow: In the run-up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress on Thursday asked its workers and leaders to fan out across their constituencies, telling its 2022 Assembly candidates that the focus should be on ensuring the party’s victory irrespective of who eventually gets the ticket.Addressing a meeting of candidates who contested the 2022 Assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh Congress in charge Rajendra Pal Gautam said the political situation in the state was more favourable for the party than during the previous election and expressed confidence that the Congress would form the next govt in Uttar Pradesh.“The objective is to strengthen every constituency. Whether you contest the next election or another party nominee does, the focus should be on ensuring the Congress wins the seat,” he said.Gautam, who is on a two-day visit to Lucknow, also met the party’s media and social media teams and employees at the state Congress headquarters. He asked media functionaries to effectively present the Congress’s stand on public issues and counter what he described as misinformation by the BJP, while calling social media a key platform to expand the party’s outreach.Launching an attack on the BJP govt, Gautam alleged that it had failed on education and employment and accused it of promoting private educational institutions at the expense of govt-run ones.Referring to the 2022 Assembly elections, Gautam said party workers fought under adverse circumstances but claimed the political environment had since become more favourable. He urged leaders to reconnect with voters and strengthen the organisation, irrespective of individual electoral ambitions.State Congress president Ajay Rai and several senior party leaders attended the meetings.
