Lucknow: In a first for UP, the Lucknow police commissionerate has introduced AI-based interceptor vehicles for automated speed enforcement and the issuance of e-challans.Officials said the AI-enabled interceptor system has been undergoing a trial run over the past three months, during which it has already generated 16,347 e-challans against motorists found violating traffic rules.“Unlike conventional speed enforcement, the interceptor vehicles are equipped with artificial intelligence-based speed detection systems, high-resolution cameras, automatic video recording, digital evidence capture and an integrated e-challan platform. The system automatically detects speeding and other serious traffic violations, captures photographic and video evidence, and generates digital challans with minimal human intervention, ensuring transparency and reducing the possibility of disputes,” said DCP traffic Raveena Tyagi.Officials said the AI-enabled interceptor vehicles are being used to detect speeding, reckless driving, stunt-biking, illegal pressure horns, and other violations that contribute to road accidents.
