Lucknow: In what could signal a shift in its organisational strategy ahead of UP elections, BJP is preparing to appoint new regional incharges in its six organisational zones, with caste representation and social outreach emerging as the key criteria for selection.Sources said the party is considering breaking from the tradition of appointing state general secretaries as regional incharges. The party could instead give opportunities to new faces with strong social influence and grassroots acceptability, sources indicated.The move aligns with the party’s intensified preparations for the 2027 elections while sharpening its response to the opposition’s PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) narrative.UP BJP’s organisational structure is spread across six regions — Kashi, Gorakhpur, Awadh, Kanpur, Braj and Paschim — covering 98 organisational districts. Deliberations over the new regional incharges have gathered pace in recent weeks, with the party leadership focusing on carving “regional and social balance” within the organisation.The selection of regional incharges is expected to reflect a carefully calibrated social mix, ensuring that key communities see representation in the party’s hierarchy.BJP’s emphasis, analysts said, is not just on winning the perception battle against the opposition’s PDA narrative but also on creating a structure that can convert social outreach into booth-level mobilisation.Rather than treating regional incharges as purely administrative posts, the party plans to position them as political coordinators, tasked with strengthening social outreach, monitoring organisational expansion and preparing the cadre for the assembly elections.BJP sources said that regional incharges could thus play a crucial role in coordinating activities between the state leadership and district units. They mainly oversee organisational programmes and monitor implementation of campaigns while acting as the party’s eyes and ears across their respective zones.Sources said that once the new regional team gets in place, BJP will formally begin the next phase of its organisational mobilisation, with a clear objective: building a socially balanced structure capable of sustaining its political dominance in UP and blunting the opposition’s strategy.
