Lucknow: Ongoing CM Grid and Smart City projects have damaged underground sewer lines, leaving residents and commuters in Aliganj grappling with sewer overflow, waterlogging, exposed manholes and dug-up roads for the past six months.SUEZ India, the firm responsible for sewer cleaning in the city, recently wrote to the Jal Kal department raising the issue. The letter stated that excavation and utility-shifting work under various infrastructure projects has damaged sewer lines, buried manholes and hampered maintenance work at 8-10 locations. The problem is most acute in Sector G, Sector L and along the Kapoorthala-Chandralok stretch.Residents said damaged footpaths and uneven road surfaces have made daily commuting difficult.“Roads have remained dug up for weeks. During rains, sewage and water collect around the excavated sections, making it difficult for pedestrians and motorists,” said Rakesh Gupta, a resident of Sector L.“The sewer network has been damaged during construction work. Whenever there is an overflow, residents suffer,” said Shalini Srivastava, a resident of Sector G.Jal Kal general manager Kuldeep Singh said the issue had been raised with the municipal corporation and repair work would begin soon.
