AYODHYA: Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust Wednesday deferred decisions on two key appointments — the selection of its chief executive officer and the induction of three new trustees — while also overhauling the temple’s religious oversight structure, giving key roles to seers from Ayodhya. At a meeting held at the Mani Ramdas Chhavni under the chairmanship of president Nritya Gopal Das Wednesday, the trust expressed dissatisfaction with SBI’s role in the donation-counting system. It also accepted a proposal to appoint a trust spokesperson and rejected suggestions that public faith and pilgrim footfall had been dented by the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in donation counting. The most far-reaching decision was the reconstitution of the religious committee. The trust treasurer said responsibilities at the temple would now largelyrest with a nine-member committee comprising five seers from Ayodhya and four trust representatives. The appointment of a trust CEO was postponed by a month after the selection committee sought time to scrutinise over 5,200 applications. The next meeting is on Sept 2.SBI employees replace donation counting staffThe trust and SBI have overhauled the donation counting system, replacing all 36 people engaged in the process with regular bank staff. The eight persons arrested in the case are not among these 36.
