Lucknow: A 28-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and critically injured his father with an axe after a dispute linked to his marriage in Bahraich district on Thursday morning, police said.The attack occurred around 7.30 am in Puraina village. The accused has been identified as Chhailu Verma (28). Police said he became enraged after his family refused to arrange his marriage.According to officers, Verma repeatedly struck his mother, Kanya Devi (55), with an axe, killing her on the spot. He then allegedly attacked his father, Bhagwandin Verma (60), who suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.Villagers informed the police, following which a team from Visheshwarganj police station, along with senior officials and a forensic science unit, reached the village. Police secured the scene and collected evidence.On the basis of a complaint filed by the husband of the deceased, police registered a case under relevant sections for murder and attempt to murder. The accused was arrested, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered, police said.Bhagwandin Verma, who is undergoing treatment, told police that tensions in the household had been building for some time. He alleged that his son frequently argued with his mother over the food she cooked, often complaining about its quality and at times suspecting that she mixed filth into his meals.He said the conflict worsened as Chhailu Verma wanted to marry a girl from the village, but the family refused to approve the match, citing his “bad habits”, which became a continuing point of contention between mother and son.Bahraich superintendent of police Vishwajeet Srivastava confirmed the arrest and seizure of the axe. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police said the investigation is ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and motives behind the killing.
