LUDHIANA: A family in rural Punjab is appealing for govt assistance to repatriate the body of a 23-year-old woman who was strangled to death in Canada in an alleged domestic violence incident.Damanpreet Kaur, originally from Lal Kalan village in Samrala, died on July 12 at an Edmonton hospital three days after police found her with critical injuries at a house in the city’s southeast Silverberry neighbourhood.An autopsy completed on July 14 by the Edmonton medical examiner determined her cause of death was strangulation, classifying the case as a homicide.The Edmonton police service announced on Wednesday that it had arrested Ritish Kumar, 22, and charged him with second-degree murder.Cops confirmed the incident was being investigated as an intimate partner homicide.The woman had initially moved to Canada on a student visa and was working on a work permit at the time of her death.
