Aamir Khan’s third marriage with Gauri Spratt created a huge stir and a fatwa was issued against the actor, opposing his marriage on religious grounds. The actor was also accused of Love Jihad and amidst these allegations, Aamir has now spoken up on the matter. He revealed that neither his ex-wives Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao, nor did Gauri Spratt convert to Islam. He said in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, “Gauri, Reena and Kiran did not change their religions when they married me, as we had civil marriages,” he said. “Gauri is not a Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that.”Emphasising the diversity within his family, said in the same interview, “Well, the truth is that ours is a very inclusive family.” He added, “Both my sisters are married to Hindus, and my daughter too is married to a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.”For those not in the know, as reported by ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain said Aamir’s marriage to Gauri is impermissible under his interpretation of Islamic law, maintaining that a Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim woman unless she embraces Islam. In a video that has surfaced online, he said, “Muslim mard ke liye, iman walon ke liye, gair muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.”The cleric further stated that Muslims who marry non-Muslim women are committing a sin and that such marriages are considered *haraam*. He added that those who refuse to recognise this as sinful will ultimately be answerable to Allah.Commenting on multiple marriages and divorces, the Maulana said such a pattern cannot be justified. He maintained that a person who cannot fulfil the responsibilities of one marriage fairly should not enter into another. Referring directly to Aamir, he said, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He has recently entered into a third marriage with a non-Muslim woman. In connection with that, we have also seen protests taking place in society.“Aamir first married Reena Dutta in 1986, followed by filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. He recently married Gauri Spratt in a private ceremony held on July 5, 2026, under the Special Marriage Act.The actor’s latest marriage has sparked objections from Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, who argued that the union is not permissible under his interpretation of Sharia because Gauri is not Muslim.
