DELHI: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has continued his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, with supporters expressing growing concern over his health as the CJP protest enters day 15.CJP’s founder Abhijeet Dipke, who has been sharing regular updates from the protest site, said Wangchuk’s health is deteriorating.“It’s Day 7 of Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike. If the government doesn’t act fast and take action against Pradhan, it will be responsible if anything happens to Sonam Sir. Despite his rapidly deteriorating health, he has made it clear that he will not end his hunger strike until action is taken,” Dipke wrote on X.The latest update follows an earlier post by Dipke in which he said Wangchuk looked “far weaker and more exhausted” than just a few days earlier.“Today, for the first time, I could see the pain on his face as his health continues to deteriorate. He told us he is fine and that there is nothing to worry about, but the reality is different. His condition is worsening with every passing hour,” Dipke had written.Wangchuk thanks govt for Ladakh steps, seeks education accountabilityIn a post on X on July 3, Wangchuk thanked the government for taking steps to address issues concerning Ladakh. However, he urged authorities to now focus on “accountability in education.”“DAY 6 OF HUNGER AT JANTAR MANTAR. Thank you govt for steps taken today to resolve the Ladakh issue, now please pay attention to accountability in education,” Wangchuk wrote.Over a month after talks between Ladakh groups and a Union home ministry (MHA) sub-committee in Delhi, informal parleys were scheduled to held on Friday in Leh with central officials.Several rounds of talks have been held with the Centre on Ladakh since 2023. The process stopped after four people were killed and over 80 injured on Sept 24, 2025, in alleged police firing on protesters in Leh demanding statehood. LAB’s Wangchuk was accused of inciting the protesters, arrested, charged under NSA and kept in Jodhpur jail. The Centre revoked his NSA detention in March this year. The protest has drawn attention on social media, with supporters closely monitoring his health and urging authorities to engage with his demands. As of now, there has been no official statement from the government regarding Wangchuk’s latest appeal on education accountability or his ongoing hunger strike.
