Lucknow: Performed at sunrise and sunset, Agnihotra, an ancient Vedic practice, can help reduce harmful elements in the environment and studies suggest the process may help lower microbial load in the air and reduce presence of disease-causing bacteria and fungi in the area.At a programme held at Era University on Saturday to discuss scientific aspects of Agnihotra, German researcher Dr Ulrich Burk presented a lecture on ‘science and purification’ and said that besides religious significance, the practice had environmental relevance too.Era University VC Prof Abbas Ali Mahdi said such programmes helped promote understanding of traditional knowledge through scientific study and would help students examine traditional practices using scientific methods.
