Lucknow: Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, who is scheduled to perform darshan at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Friday, hit out at the Shri Ram Temple Trust for the alleged theft of donations given to the Temple and accused the govt of trying to cover up the crime by setting up an ineffective SIT.Speaking in Lucknow on arrival from Delhi, Kejriwal asked why the Trust general secretary Champat Rai was being protected and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared helpless before him.“The news coming from the Ram Temple has hurt us deeply. These people stole Bhagwan Ji’s offerings, his garland and his padukas. The diamonds and jewels that people had offered to Bhagwan with great emotion were also stolen. It is being said that about Rs 200 crore in cash and 200 kg of silver given by some devotee have also been stolen,” Kejriwal said.Asking how an SIT was set up without an FIR, the former Delhi chief minister said that this body does not have the power to investigate properly. “The SIT is meant to whitewash the entire matter. Its only job is to save the real culprits. The theft of donations, diamonds and jewels, and Bhagwan’s padukas is not an ordinary matter. It is a very serious matter that has hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus,” he said.
