Lucknow: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University on Thursday approved a budget of Rs 1,1016.63 crore for the establishment of four major Centres of Excellence on the campus. The decision was taken during the executive council meeting which also ratified a proposal to grant admissions to various courses, including engineering on the basis of ranks obtained in JEE Main, CUET and NATA through the UPTAC counselling process. “A major decision taken in the meeting was the approval for setting up Centres of Excellence to strengthen advanced technology education, research and skill development. Four major Centres of Excellence will be established on the university campus to make emerging technologies accessible to the youth across the state. These include an AI Centre of Excellence, an Apple Centre of Excellence, a Space Technology Centre of Excellence and centres related to Cyber Forensic Investigation Technology,” said AKTU vice-chancellor Prof JP Pandey.He said the AI Centre of Excellence will be developed to promote innovation, research, faculty training, AI-based startups and related projects in the field of artificial intelligence. The Apple Centre of Excellence will include an Apple computer-based Mac Lab to train students in app development, machine learning, creative computing and other emerging technical areas. Meanwhile, the Space Technology Centre of Excellence will focus on education, research, innovation and skill development in space science, satellite systems, rocketry, remote sensing and allied subjects.The facility is expected to support students in research and innovation in the space technology sector.
