Lucknow: Ambedkar Nagar police arrested 11 members of an inter-state distraction theft gang, including five women from Jharkhand, and recovered Rs 47,100 in cash along with gold and silver jewellery, officials said Sunday.Police said the arrests have helped crack multiple theft cases in Ambedkar Nagar and Gorakhpur districts, and that the gang had 11 cases registered against it in Ambedkar Nagar.The arrests were made on Monday after Akbarpur Kotwali police received information that the suspects had gathered near a temple to distribute stolen cash and jewellery and plan another offence, police said.Superintendent of police Prachi Singh said the group included members from Jharkhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh who travelled across districts to commit distraction thefts and then moved to new locations.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to thefts in Akbarpur, Jalalpur, Katka, Mahrua, Malipur and Ahirauli police station areas of Ambedkar Nagar , and in Shahpur area of Gorakhpur. The gang allegedly split stolen valuables before shifting districts.
