Bahraich: Amritsar Rural Police will take three Waris Punjab De operatives — US citizen Vikramjeet Singh, Manbir Singh Dhillon and Joga Singh — to Punjab on a production warrant for further interrogation in connection with the Feb 2023 Ajnala police station attack and other pending criminal cases registered at Ajnala police station in Amritsar Rural.The three accused are currently lodged in the Bahraich district jail after being remanded to judicial custody following their arrest for allegedly attempting to enter India illegally from Nepal through the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh.Punjab Police is set to secure the production warrant to facilitate their transfer to Amritsar, where investigators are expected to question them about their alleged role in the Ajnala violence, their activities within the banned Waris Punjab De organisation, their associates and their suspected cross-border network.

Vikramjeet Singh and Manbir Singh Dhillon are wanted in connection with the Feb 23, 2023, attack on Ajnala police station, when Waris Punjab De chief and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, accompanied by thousands of supporters, allegedly led a march to the police station to demand the release of one of his aides. The gathering, which police said was organised under the guise of a religious procession, turned violent after protesters allegedly stormed the police station, attacking security personnel with sharp-edged weapons, sticks and stones.Several police personnel, including the then superintendent of police, Jugraj Singh, suffered injuries during the violence.While most of the accused in the case are currently lodged in various jails across Punjab, Amritpal Singh remains lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam under the National Security Act.
