LUCKNOW: About 30 acres of land out of the total area being acquired by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) for its Wellness City residential scheme on Sultanpur Road belongs to aides of slain gangster Atiq Ahmad, a probe by the authority revealed. The probe also uncovered that nearly 120 acres of land are proxy-owned land held by around 20 to 25 influential individuals, including strongmen. The city is planned to be spread over approximately 1,198 acres and developed under a land-pooling model. The project was announced about six months ago.The LDA officials, during the acquisition drive, contacted several farmers and landowners. Many agreed to acquisition. However, officials found that several landowners in the area were either not forthcoming or land was registered in the name of `unidentified persons’. As a result, the probe was done.Authorities are now conducting a detailed verification of land records to establish the actual ownership. The list will be sent to the district administration for further investigation, officials said.
