Bahraich: A junior resident doctor at Maharaja Suhel Dev Government Medical College in Bahraich was suspended Sunday after taking out a solo march in support of social activist Sonam Wangchuk on the city’s streets two days ago. The medical college administration has also constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.The incident took place on Friday, when Dr Rupak Ikhe, a junior resident doctor and a native of Amravati, Maharashtra, staged a lone march through Bahraich.According to officials, Dr Ikhe wore a t-shirt carrying a message in support of Wangchuk and walked with a placard to raise awareness about the campaign. He marched alone from Digiha Tiraha to the District Magistrate’s residence.A video of the march later surfaced on social media, in which Dr Ikhe can be heard saying that he supports Wangchuk’s campaign and is associated with the movement.After the video came to light, Government Medical College principal Dr Sanjay Khatri took cognisance of the incident. Acting in accordance with institutional rules, the college administration suspended Dr Ikhe and ordered a departmental inquiry.A three-member committee has been constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit its report. Further action, if any, will be decided based on the committee’s findings.
