Bahraich: Villagers in Bahraich rescued two injured deer in separate incidents after the animals were attacked by stray and hunting dogs, prompting renewed concern over the safety of wildlife entering rural settlements. In Gram Panchayat Godahiya Number under Jayraj Singh Pradhanpurwa village, a deer searching for water on Wednesday morning was surrounded and mauled by a pack of dogs. The animal suffered serious injuries before villagers, alerted by the noise, rushed to the spot and chased the dogs away. Residents then informed the forest department, whose team arrived and took the injured deer for treatment. The incident has unsettled locals, particularly because another deer was found dead in the same area only a few days ago. Villagers said repeated attacks suggest wild animals straying into habitation are increasingly vulnerable. In another case in Dhikauli village late Tuesday night, residents rescued a deer after it was attacked by hunting dogs near a forest patch. Eyewitness Sanjay Chauhan said he was overseeing wheat threshing in his field when he noticed dogs attacking the animal. He intervened immediately and drove the dogs away.Soon, other villagers, including Chirag Chauhan, Umang Chauhan, Thakur Shani Pratap, Shubham Chauhan, Lucky Chauhan and Mukul Chauhan, gathered to help. They secured the injured deer by tying its limbs and covering its eyes to calm it and prevent further harm until officials arrived. After receiving information, the forest department reached the site and took custody of the deer for treatment and care.A similar incident had also been reported in Dhikauli last month.
