Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) will hold its 11th convocation ceremony on Aug. 29. Defence minister Rajnath Singh will attend as the chief guest and confer degrees and gold medals on students.The ceremony will be held on the university campus for students who graduated between 2023 and 2026. Around 8,300 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students are eligible to receive their degrees, while nearly 4,100 have registered so far.Registration will remain open until Aug 16.According to university officials, the ceremony could not be held for the last three years due to the absence of a permanent vice-chancellor (VC).The post of BBAU’s full-time VC remained vacant after former VC Prof Sanjay Singh’s five-year term ended in 2024, following which BBAU professor Prof N.M.P. Verma of the economics department was appointed officiating VC on the basis of seniority.After his retirement, Prof S.K. Dwivedi from the department of environmental sciences was designated as the officiating VC.It was only in March last year that Prof R.K. Mittal was appointed the university’s permanent VC.BBAU VC Prof Raj Kumar Mittal said, “Around 390 research scholars will receive PhD degrees, nearly 220 students will be awarded degrees under the multiple exit scheme, and about 450 meritorious students will receive gold medals. Four students will also be honoured with the R.D. Sonkar Award.”
