SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) has begun rallying support for its July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, with party president Farooq Abdullah and chief minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday holding a meeting of Kashmir civil society groups, which adopted a resolution calling for the restoration of J&K’s statehood.A NC spokesperson said more than 150 representatives from various sections of J&K’s civil society joined the meeting presided over by Farooq. “The gathering unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the Union govt to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay. The resolution reflects the collective and unanimous voice of the civil society representatives present at the meeting,” the spokesperson said.Omar said the meeting was quite productive and there were several good suggestions useful feedback.The governing NC had on June 3 announced to hold a one-day protest in Delhi, coinciding with the first day of Parliament’s monsoon session, to press for restoration of statehood at the earliest.
