Bengal municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul said cattle slaughter remains legal in the state if carried out under provisions already in force. “We have never asked anyone to clo- se their shops. There are specific provisions in the existing Act we have to adhere to. There is a 2018 HC judgment and there is a govt order from June 2022. The decisi- on was taken keeping everything in mind.” Paul remarks followed an appeal by a prominent cleric, asking Muslims to avoid buying cows for Eid sacrifice
