Lucknow: A 35-year-old businessman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 9th floor of a residential apartment in Lucknow’s Mahanagar area on Thursday evening. Police said preliminary inquiry suggests that he had been battling depression for a considerable period, though all angles are being investigated.According to police, the incident occurred at around 7 pm in Shalimar Gallant apartment, B-Tower, under the jurisdiction of the Vigyanpuri police outpost.The deceased has been identified as Vivek Maheshwari (35), son of Ashok Maheshwari, a resident of flat B-803 in the apartment complex.The victim’s wife, Tulika, on receiving information from the guards, informed Mahanagar police which reached the spot and shifted Maheshwari, who had sustained critical injuries in the fall, to Bhaurao Deoras hospital, where doctors declared him dead.During the preliminary investigation, police recorded the statements of domestic staff and employees working at the flat, who told investigators that Maheshwari had reportedly been suffering from depression for a long time. Officials, however, said they are also examining other possible circumstances.A forensic team visited the scene and collected physical evidence as part of the investigation. Police have taken custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination after completing the legal formalities.Mahanagar station house officer, Akhilesh Mishra said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem examination report and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
