Lucknow: The UP BJP on Tuesday marked the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar with large-scale events across Uttar Pradesh, organising programmes at over 1.6 lakh polling booths in the state.Party leaders and workers paid floral tributes to portraits and statues of Ambedkar reciting the Preamble of the Constitution and reaffirming their commitment to his ideals, the party said in a statement.In Saharanpur, chief minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary, deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, along with state general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh, offered tributes to Ambedkar.State general secretary and convenor of the Ambedkar Jayanti campaign, Subhash Yaduvansh said similar programmes were held at more than 1.6 lakh booths across the state.The BJP has also planned a week-long series of programmes to mark Ambedkar Jayanti.Beautification of statuesPaying tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar during an event in Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar constituency, MLA Rajeshwar Singh showcased development works in the constituency, including beautification of 10 Ambedkar statues with improved lighting, cleanliness drives and basic infrastructure around the sites. Singh said restoration work at 10 more locations would be undertaken over the next year.
