Lucknow: The theft, committed barely 200 metres from a police outpost, has raised fresh questions over security in the state capital. The incident occurred under the Talkatora police station limits at the residence of Sudhanshu, an engineer whose brother is an IAS officer. ACP (Bazarkhala) Ranjit Kumar, who shifted into the first-floor portion of the house with his family around 20 days ago, discovered the burglary after returning from duty on Sunday.According to police, the ACP’s family had also left for their ancestral home a few days earlier, leaving the premises locked. On his return, Ranjit Kumar found the main room open. A search revealed that burglars had forced their way into the ground-floor portion, broken open an almirah locker and escaped with cash and valuables. The exact value of the stolen property is yet to be determined.Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information and have launched an investigation. Officers are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area, where a few suspicious individuals have reportedly been spotted.SHO, Bazaarkhala, Kuldeep Dubey, told TOI that they were informed about the theft by the engineer’s kin but no complaint has been given as yet. The latest incident has also revived concerns over an earlier burglary at the same property. On March 25, unidentified thieves allegedly decamped with jewellery, ₹50,000 in cash and other valuables from the house. That case remains unsolved.
