Sanjay Roy, the main accused, was convicted on January 18, 2025, and sentenced to life imprisonment on January 20, 2025.Subsequently, on January 24, 2025, the CBI moved the High Court seeking the death penalty for Roy, while Roy himself filed an appeal on July 9, 2025, seeking acquittal. On August 28, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh recused himself from hearing the matter, and later, a division bench of Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Md.
