Lucknow: The Lucknow Police have arrested six members of a suspected burglary gang for carrying out a theft at a jewellery shop in Gomti Nagar Extension.According to police, the accused first surveyed Venkatesh Jewellers, located near Geetapuri Crossing in Kharagapur, to study the shop’s security arrangements, movement of people and surrounding area before striking on the night of July 14. The gang allegedly broke open the shop’s shutter and fled with gold and silver ornaments.Following a complaint by shop owner Shailendra Soni, the Gomti Nagar Extension police registered an FIR and constituted a special team. Investigators analysed CCTV footage, gathered technical evidence and developed local intelligence before identifying the suspects.Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the six accused from Bandha Road near Shalimar Apartments on July 16. The arrested include Neeraj Kumar Chaudhary, 24, a native of Chhapra in Bihar, along with Dheeraj Yadav, Sachin Raj, Sarvesh Raj, Dharmendra Nishad and Sumit Singh.Police recovered a large quantity of stolen gold and silver jewellery, religious silver articles, cash worth ₹7,200, seven Android mobile phones and the e-rickshaw allegedly used in the crime.“Investigators are probing whether the gang was involved in similar burglaries in Lucknow and adjoining districts, while efforts are also underway to ascertain the role of each accused and identify any other accomplices,” said ADCP East Zone Amol Murkut.
