Lucknow: Reviewing the progress of the ongoing Chattar Manzil adaptive reuse plan, additional chief secretary, tourism, culture and religious affairs, Amrit Abhijat said the project must evolve as a model for heritage conservation.During his site inspection, officials and consultants presented a roadmap to transform Chattar Manzil into a world-class heritage destination while preserving its architectural character and cultural significance.“The redevelopment should serve as a model for heritage conservation and adaptive reuse. While modern visitor amenities are important, the historical character and cultural identity of Chattar Manzil must remain at the heart of the project,” he said.Officials said the proposed redevelopment seeks to blend heritage conservation with contemporary hospitality standards, creating a destination that showcases the history, architecture, cuisine, music and cultural traditions of Awadh. The redevelopment blueprint includes conservation of the heritage structure, hospitality infrastructure, visitor experience design, landscape enhancement, sustainability measures and long-term asset management. As part of state govt’s broader strategy to promote heritage-led tourism, the initiative is expected to strengthen Lucknow’s position as a major cultural tourism destination while generating economic activity and employment opportunities.Located on the banks of the Gomti river, Chattar Manzil is among Lucknow’s most recognisable symbols of Nawabi architecture.
