Five schoolchildren were thrown out of a moving private school van after its rear door reportedly opened mid-journey near Gayathri Layout in KR Pura, Bengaluru, on Friday morning. Three children were injured in the incident. The children were seated at the back of the van when the rear door suddenly opened, causing them to fall onto the road. Fortunately, no vehicle was coming from behind at the time, preventing what could have been a far more serious accident.Traffic police later seized the van. Initial suspicion is that the rear door had not been properly locked before the vehicle started its journey. The exact circumstances behind the incident are being investigated.Earlier this year, an overloaded auto-rickshaw carrying more than 10 schoolchildren overturned on Harmu Road in Jharkhand. However, no child suffered major injuries.People on social media pointed to the common practice of carrying more children than the permitted capacity and questioned whether enough checks are carried out on school transport vehicles.“In India a school van with capacity of 10 children will carry 20 children, thus endangering their lives.I have yet to see such vans ever challaned by police,” someone wrote on X.
