Lucknow: A six-year-old girl was injured seriously after coming in contact with banned Chinese manjha (glass-coated kite string) in Wazirganj area of Lucknow on Sunday afternoon, highlighting the continued danger posed by the hazardous material. The incident occurred around 3 pm near Jagat Narayan Road at Golaganj crossing when the child, identified as Abeera, was travelling on a motorcycle with her father, Khalil Ahmad. According to the family, a stray kite string suddenly got entangled around the girl’s neck, causing deep cuts before her father could stop the bike. The child sustained severe injuries to her neck and one finger. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors administered 10 stitches to stop the profuse bleeding. She was discharged after treatment and is said to be in stable condition. This marks the 18th such incident reported in Lucknow in past 45 days, raising serious concerns over continued use of Chinese manjah despite restrictions.Khalil Ahmad, resident near Kaiserbagh’s Odeon Cinema area, demanded strict action against those using the banned kite string. “Flying kites with Chinese manjha is extremely dangerous and poses threat to life. Those responsible should be identified and sent to jail,” he said.Police officials stated action is being taken against individuals found using prohibited manja, but no formal complaint has been lodged in the case so far.Authorities have repeatedly warned against use of Chinese manja due to its sharp, synthetic coating, which can cause life-threatening injuries to pedestrians and bikers.
