NEW DELHI: A young woman injured during the police action at the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest is on ventilator support at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, news agency PTI reported. The woman sustained injuries during Monday’s clashes between protesters and police.Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, and Union minister JP Nadda visited RML Hospital, where the Opposition leaders met injured protesters while Nadda met doctors treating them.Kejriwal said, “We have been informed that, except for one girl, everyone else has been discharged. All the injured students and all the injured police personnel have been discharged. One girl is in the ICU and is in critical condition.”The development comes a day after thousands of CJP supporters attempted to march towards Parliament demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities. The march witnessed repeated clashes with police after protesters tried to breach barricades despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).Police used lathis and tear gas to disperse the crowd, while Delhi Police later registered an FIR at Connaught Place police station over the violence and alleged vandalism during the protest.CJP has accused Delhi Police of using excessive force during the crackdown, alleging that volunteers were beaten and dragged on the roads. Party leaders also claimed that activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, was dragged by her hair during the police action.Meanwhile, the protest entered its second day on Tuesday, with CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke continuing his sit-in at Jantar Mantar. Activist Sonam Wangchuk also continued his indefinite hunger strike, saying he decided not to end his fast after witnessing what he described as the “brutality against peacefully protesting youth.”In a statement on Monday, Delhi Police said more than 118 police personnel were injured during the clashes, while around 60 protesters sustained injuries.(With PTI inputs)
