Lucknow: UP Congress chief Ajay Rai on Monday demanded a judicial inquiry into the collapse of an underconstruction bridge over the Betwa river in Hamirpur, alleging serious lapses in construction quality, administrative accountability and worker safety. In a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath, Rai said that questions could not be ruled out over alleged administrative negligence and possible corruption. “The truth behind the accident should come out through a fair and high-level judicial investigation and those responsible must face strict action,” he said adding that the govt to place the “real facts” before the public while ensuring strict action against those found responsible.Congress also constituted a delegation led by former UP Congress president Brijlal Khabri, which visited the accident site and met affected families and local residents.According to a party spokesperson, several questions remain unanswered, including the exact number of workers affected.
