Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Monday demanded a high-level investigation into the devastating fire at a commercial complex in the city’s Aliganj area that killed 15 students. The party said the incident exposed serious lapses in safety compliance at educational institutions and called for accountability for any violations of fire norms or failures in emergency preparedness.UP Congress president Ajay Rai described the deaths as “heart-rending” and urged the state govt to order a comprehensive inquiry to establish the circumstances that led to the blaze. He said responsibility must be fixed and strict action taken against those found culpable for negligence or regulatory breaches.In a statement, Rai said the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for authorities tasked with monitoring adherence to building and fire safety regulations. Congress leaders stressed the need for regular inspections and stricter enforcement of safety standards to prevent similar incidents.Rai expressed condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. He also urged the govt to ensure the best possible medical treatment for survivors and to extend adequate financial support to affected families.The Congress sought compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the families of those who died in the fire.
