Lucknow: The Mirzapur police busted an inter-state cyber fraud racket and seized over 11,600 old mobile phones, along with vehicles and cash. Director general of police Rajeev Krishna announced a cash reward of Rs1 lakh for the team.The action was carried out by a joint team of Lalganj police station and the SOG/surveillance unit under the supervision of superintendent of police Aparna Rajat Kaushik. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a truck near Tendui toll plaza on Mar 16 and arrested eight accused on the spot.Police searched the vehicle and seized 11,605 old mobile phones. The total value of the seized items is estimated at around Rs1 crore.During interrogation, the accused revealed that they collected old phones from different states by exchanging utensils or through theft. “These devices were repaired and sold in parts to cyber fraud gangs operating in Bihar and Kolkata. The sensitive data such as Aadhaar, PAN, bank details and contact information stored in the phones was used for executing financial frauds. Financial scrutiny also revealed suspicious transactions, including over Rs45 lakh routed through one bank account of an accused,” said Kaushik.
