Lucknow: An argument during a video call allegedly led a final-year BSc student and a young man to die by suicide in Basti district, police said.According to investigators, the woman was found hanging at her home under Nagar police station limits on Saturday morning. Police recovered a suicide note from her room in which she referred to her four-year relationship with the young man, who belonged to a neighbouring village.In the note, the student wrote that during a conversation on Friday night, she angrily told him to “go die”. Realising her mistake soon afterwards, she repeatedly tried to contact him, but he did not answer her calls. Believing that he took the extreme step, she, too, died by suicide, police said.

During the investigation, police learnt that the young man also allegedly died by suicide late on Friday night. By the time officers reached his village, his family already performed his last rites.Police examined the mobile phones of both the deceased and found that they remained in contact until around 10:45 pm on Friday. Investigators also confirmed that the two spoke over a video call shortly before their deaths.According to police, the couple studied together until Intermediate and were in a relationship for the past four years. After school, the young man discontinued his studies and was looking for a job, while the woman continued her education and was pursuing the final year of her BSc degree.SHO Ram Prasad Yadav of Kotwali police station said the investigation suggests the couple had an argument during the video call, which may have triggered the tragic sequence of events. Police are verifying all aspects of the case.
