Lucknow: Under the ‘One District-One Innovation’ project, the state govt will be implementing one major cow-based industry in each of UP’s 75 districts, which will be dependent on local resources and needs. The Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission has completed a statewide assessment of the capacities of cow shelters, based on which the district wise industries will be finalised. Chairperson of the UP Cow Service Commission Shyam Bihari Gupta explained that the objective of the scheme was to ensure that cow shelters were not only limited to protection of cattle but were incorporated into the rural economy by developing them into centres of production, employment, natural farming and rural entrepreneurship.“A detailed assessment has been conducted of the land available in cow shelters across the state, cattle population, water resources, Panchgavya units and the potential of local markets. Separate innovation models are being prepared for each district. In some districts, biogas production will be promoted, while in others, priority will be given to eco-paint manufacturing, organic manure, vermicompost, cow dung-based products and Panchgavya products,” he said, adding that this would encourage the development of small industrial units at the local level and create employment opportunities for rural youth within their own districts.Women self-help groups and youth will be provided training under the scheme and connected with production, processing and marketing activities at the shelters.
