Lucknow: Journalists and media professionals can now learn the practical application in AI while writing their stories with the launch of a certificate course at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur.The six-month course in AI is designed to train journalism students and people from media in reporting, content creation, data journalism and multimedia production.The curriculum combines theoretical concepts with practical training on AI tools used in the media industry. Key topics include the fundamentals of AI, prompt engineering, content creation, Natural Language Processing (NLP), automated journalism, data journalism, multimedia journalism, media ethics and a practical project.Structured into five core papers, the course guide participants from the basics of AI and journalism to its advanced applications. Officials said the course will emphasize the importance of human editorial oversight and adherence to journalistic values when utilizing AI-generated content.CSJMU vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Pathak said, “The course is introduced keeping in mind the rapid use of AI tools in newsrooms, be it spanning research, content development, data analysis, transcription, fact-checking, image and video production and digital storytelling.”Head, department of journalism and mass communication, CSJMU Diwakar Awasthi said, “Media ethics will be a crucial part of the course, covering issues such as fake news, deepfakes, misinformation, copyright, privacy, bias, and the credibility of AI-generated content.”
