Lucknow: A vibrant tapestry of Indian culture unfolded at Vishveshwarya Hall on Sunday as the two-day Cultural Karwaan 2026, organised by Jashn-e-Adab Sahityaotsav, brought together classical dance, music, qawwali and poetry in an evening steeped in history and artistic expression.The programme opened with a mesmerising Kathak presentation by dancer Rachna Jain and her troupe. Titled Katha Kathak, the performance narrated the story of India’s freedom struggle through dance, depicting the end of the Nawabi era in Lucknow, British annexation of Awadh and the exile of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah to Kolkata. Through expressive movements and evocative choreography, the performers brought a significant chapter of Lucknow’s history alive on stage.The mood then shifted to classical and ghazal singing, with Saqib Khan and his group winning hearts with renditions of Ranjish Hi Sahi, Sitaron Se Aage Jahan Aur Bhi Hain and Dil-e-Nadan Tujhe Hua Kya Hai. Their soulful performances created an intimate atmosphere, drawing appreciative applause from the audience.A qawwali presentation by Rais Anis Sabri and his troupe added another layer of energy to the evening. Their renditions of Ali Da Malang and Chhap Tilak had the audience immersed in the devotional spirit of the music.The evening concluded with a poetic symposium featuring Waseem Barelvi, Javed Mushsiri, Prof Rehman Musawwir, Gulzar Wani, Ranjan Nigam and Abhishreshtha Tiwari, who recited verses exploring love, longing, life, the nation, independence and hope.“I have come from Barabanki especially to listen to Waseem Barelvi. He is my favourite poet,” said visitor Rehmatullah Obaid.Chetna Singh, who attended the programme for the ghazals, said, “The recital was soulful and beautiful and created a peaceful and nostalgic mood, making the evening truly memorable.”
