Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Friday said the daily wage system, outsourcing and hire-and-fire policies have made survival increasingly difficult for people who work hard to make a living and expressed hope that these people would get to see better days ahead.Speaking on Labour Day, she said the importance of the day cannot be denied even today because, despite a lot of efforts, there has been no expected and visible improvement in the living conditions of people who toil hard for their daily living.“These people have made tremendous contribution to nation building, which Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar recognised, and, therefore, worked to guarantee a happy and prosperous life for all of them,” said Mayawati, adding that outsourcing, daily wage labour, and the hire-and-fire system have forced the toiling classes of the country to face new hardships and severe employment uncertainties. She noted that all this has had an adverse impact on the upbringing of the labourers’ families. She appealed to all govts to ensure the rightful participation of the labour class in the country’s development. She also extended her greetings on Buddha Purnima and said it is the responsibility of govts to focus on the problems faced by the followers of Gautam Buddha and also eradicate them.“Four times that the BSP formed its govt in UP, it walked on the ideals of Gautam Buddha.Teachings of Buddha are more relevant for the uneducated, exploited and neglected sections of society today,” said the former UP CM.She highlighted works undertaken by BSP govts to preserve and honour Buddha’s legacy, including Gautam Buddha University and Buddh International Circuit in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Baudh Vihar Shanti Upavan in Lucknow, and naming Mahamaya Nagar in Hathras after Buddha’s mother.Mayawati also said her govt implemented the Dr Ambedkar Samagra Gram Vikas Yojana to improve living conditions in villages lacking basic facilities.
