KOLKATA: Soon after Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth chief minister of West Bengal on Saturday – also the first BJP chief minister in the state – the change was officially updated in his social media bio. The words “chief minister” debuted in his bio on his official Facebook and X pages.Mamata Banerjee, who has refused to resign as the chief minister while alleging irregularities in the assembly elections held last month, has also changed her social media bio, describing herself as the founder chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress and “chief minister of West Bengal (15th, 16th and 17th Vidhan Sabha)”. The words “former chief minister” were carefully avoided in line with her ongoing protest.BJP swept the Bengal assembly elections, winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, bringing curtains on the 15-year-long Trinamool Congress rule in the state.Banerjee, who came to office in 2011, has not formally tendered resignation from her post. Rather, she alleged irregularities in the electoral process, claiming that discrepancies in nearly 100 constituencies led to the defeat of her party.
