LUCKNOW: A 55 year old man travelling from Lucknow suffered a heart attack moments after getting off a train at Bareilly Junction on the morning of July 10, but was saved after a doctor present at the station, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, administered timely cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).The passenger, identified as Anil Kumar Sahu, a patient of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, had arrived by train 12583 AC Double Decker. A video of the incident showed, Sahu collapsed while climbing the stairs leading from platforms 2 and 3 at around 9 am after alighting from the train.RPF Sub Inspector Ajayveer Singh and GRP constables Pradeep Sharma and Upendra Kumar immediately rushed to his aid and began CPR. As a crowd gathered at the spot, Dr Parmendra Maheshwari, a local resident, who had come to the station to see off a relative, stepped in and provided emergency medical assistance. The combined efforts of the railway personnel and the doctor helped revive Sahu before he was shifted in a private auto rickshaw to the military hospital in Bareilly Cantonment for further treatment.Speaking to TOI, Surendra Mohan Tripathi, a friend of Sahu, credited the doctor and police personnel with saving Sahu’s life. “Dr Parmendra was like a godsend in reviving Anil. He was returning home from Lucknow after consulting doctors at SGPGI for his deteriorating health when the incident occurred. He is stable now,” Tripathi said.Railway officials said the prompt response by RPF and GRP personnel, followed by the doctor’s intervention, proved crucial during the medical emergency.
