Lucknow: UP Congress president Ajay Rai on Wednesday wrote to PM Narendra Modi seeking an independent forensic and financial investigation into the donation theft.“Since you and your govt had taken credit for construction, inauguration and consecration of the temple, you must also ensure accountability over allegations relating to its financial management. Credit for the temple’s construction must also come with responsibility for ensuring transparency in the management of donations,” he wrote in the letter. The Congress leader said he had earlier written to CM Yogi Adityanath demanding an independent probe but claimed that no effective action had been taken by state govt. Instead, he alleged, govt representatives had responded with political counter-attacks rather than addressing the issues raised.Rai demanded that state govt order an independent forensic audit and financial investigation into the temple’s donations and accounts. “Such a probe would either clear the trust if the allegations were baseless or identify those responsible if any irregularities were found,” Rai said.He also sought accountability of officials associated with the temple trust and the administration, questioning whether any information regarding alleged financial irregularities had been shared with the state or central govts and, if so, what action had taken.
