Lucknow: UP STF arrested member of an interstate drug trafficking syndicate and seized 200 kg of ganja (cannabis), estimated to cost Rs 52 lakh in international market, police said on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Ajit Kumar, son of Bilas Yadav, resident of Nalanda district in Bihar.STF officials said the accused was picked from a service lane near HCL under the jurisdiction of Sushant Golf City police station. Acting on tip-off about a consignment from Odisha, STF team intercepted a trailer truck bearing a Jharkhand registration number.On searching the vehicle, the team led by ASP Deepak Kumar Singh recovered 200 kg ganja inside a specially carved cavity in the trailer. Other items recovered include a mobile phone, driving licence, debit card and Rs 1,650 in cash.“The accused revealed the consignment was loaded in Odisha on instructions of two Jharkhand-based handlers, identified as Tipu and Tapan, who allegedly own the vehicle. He said the drugs were transported to designated locations based on instructions received via mobile communication, after which delivery points were shared. The accused also disclosed he had transported consignments three to four times in past. He was reportedly paid Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per trip,” said the ASP.
