Lucknow: To equip students with modern AI-driven prosthetics technology, Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) has partnered with a private firm to establish a digital prosthetics and orthotics facility on its campus.According to officials, Instalimb India will bring equipment and software worth nearly Rs 1.77 crore, including high-speed 3D printers, 3D scanners and AI-enabled digital design software. The facility will enable students to learn and use the latest technology employed globally in the manufacture of artificial limbs and assistive devices.“The initiative will significantly improve rehabilitation services for students with disabilities by making prosthetic limbs more accurate and comfortable while reducing production time. Unlike conventional methods, digital scanning and AI-assisted design are expected to ensure better-fitting devices, reducing the need for repeated adjustments and improving mobility,” said DSMNRU vice-chancellor Prof Sanjay Singh.He added that students would receive practical training in 3D scanning, digital modelling, AI-assisted design and 3D printing, equipping them with skills that are increasingly sought after by hospitals, rehabilitation centres and medical technology companies.Once fully operational, the facility is expected to provide digitally designed prosthetic limbs to 30–40 beneficiaries every month.
